Pardon the visual pun. Today’s post is not a collection of jock strap photos but rather a layout from Greystone Studio, a supporting player in the Mandate, Honcho, and Playguy cavalcade of erotic photography. As far as I can ascertain, we used Greystone only this once during my time as editor-in-chief. I’m not sure why the relationship faltered, although it’s possible that the studio either didn’t submit or that we rejected their later work. Even so, the model pictured below was considered attractive enough for a Mandate cover.

The inside layout, however, is atypically brief: two centerfolds. To atone for the shortage, I’ve added the jockstrap photo above, from Falcon, and two quirky random shots below, “X-rated” by Romeo and the eroticized bananas by Kristen Bjorn. Both were used to illustrate stories in Playguy. For good measure, I’ve thrown in two illustrations, one each by an artist whose work appeared only once during my tenure.

Up to now I have tended to choose longer layouts by top notch studios — e.g., Colt and Falcon — and by outstanding independent photographers such as Kristen Bjorn, Len Tavares (aka Usher), Naakve, Bill Bader, and Romeo. But since subscribers seem also to like those models from less spectacular sources, I’ll be featuring some of them in future.
