These short items are taken from Mandate’s “Mandata” column, those monthly pages where we wrote about newsy topics of interest to our readers. These featurettes ranged from the hunk du jour and hunks of yesteryear, onscreen and on the stage, to New York phenomena such as Rollarena, the self-styled “Fairy Godmother” and the great Charles Ludlam. Rollarena, whose sobriquet I misspelled as “Rollerena,” might easily have been mistaken for Glenda the Good Witch as she sailed down and then up Fifth Avenue during the annual Gay Pride Parade. (She phoned to point out my mistake, then forgave me with a fairy blessing.)
