Imagine my surprise, and my extreme delight, when I received an email yesterday from Alan Eichler, the producer, talent manager, and press agent. Responding to my post on Mamie Van Doren, he informed me that “we had a great meeting with Mamie today. We’re starting a new feature-length doc about her!”
He attached this picture, taken more or less the same hour that my post went out to subscribers.
On the left is Steve Masterson, the director’s assistant, and Marc Saltarelli, at right, is the director. Alan added that Marc “recently did the acclaimed Studio One Forever,” the previously untold story of the iconic gay disco in West Hollywood.
Alan Eichler and Stephen Israel are producers of the Mamie Van Doren documentary. Alan added, “I’m now a film producer with six projects! Also working on a Johnnie Ray biopic.”
Can you guess what Mamie is holding in the photograph? I couldn’t. It’s a bag of the new Mamie Van Doren coffee!
After a cup of that, you won’t even remember Starbucks.
Among those scheduled to appear in Mamie’s documentary (the title hasn’t been decided yet) are Russ Tamblyn, her costar in High School Confidential (1958); Barbara Eden; Eddie Muller; and John Waters.
